You have come a long way and arrived in Dawson City. If you have it in you to go a little further, let “The Viking and The Wolf River Expeditions" take you “Into the Wild.” Join us on our most popular package, “The 2-day getaway special.” An overnight expedition into the Yukon’s true wilderness . We start our river- rafting adventure in Dawson City, Yukon Territory, starting on the majestic Klondike. We float through canyons, past forests, mountain ranges and shipwrecks. Soak up the scenery, enjoy wildlife sightings. Then we arrive at our beautiful campsite on Sister Island. Sister Island has a story that only the owners Gary and Lou can tell. Gary and Lou’s story: Originally, Sister Island was known as St Ann’s Island as it was owned by the Sisters of St Ann. They were given the Island at the turn of the 19th century during The Klondike Gold rush and it was here that they produced food for St Mary’s Hospital and the school.... they grew amazing vegetables and farmed chickens, cows and pigs...they also grew hay to feed the livestock .There are some good photos in the reference section of the museum. The Sisters left Dawson in 1963 and sold the Island to the Jones family. It was sold again in 1989 and it was soon after that the house was built that we live in today... Originally, we were from Sussex, England and first saw and fell in love with the Island seven years ago, but were not in a position to buy it, so we moved to our lovely 150-acre farm in Nova Scotia, where we grew veg, farmed sheep and did a variety of other jobs for a couple of years. Then, one day, out of the blue, I decided to have another look at properties around Dawson City and imagine my surprise when the Island was still for sale...well, we jumped on it there and then, bought it without ever seeing it in person...We have never done anything that felt this right before and we packed up everything, drove across Canada and arrived here around four years ago.//////////////////////// Enjoy a night in their Mongolian Yurt. Then be fed farm fresh meals that will make departing after breakfast almost impossible. You will have time to learn how to fly-fish and pan for gold, solve the problems of the universe or just escape from them for a while, enjoy the campfire, the sounds of our guitar, a glass of wine, all under the midnight sun. The next day we break camp and carry on downstream to "Forty Mile." way up near the Alaskan border, Forty mile was the only place in the territory back in 1886 that could be called a town. In fact, it is the Yukon's oldest town and it was a hell-roaring community of prospectors, traders, and trappers. This now abandoned ghost town will be yours to explore. We then return to Dawson via our shuttle over the Top of the World highway. Whether you are travelling alone or in a group, allow "The Viking and the Wolf River Expeditions" to share this unforgettable experience with you, your friends and your family. Everything from camping gear to all meals are provided. Just bring your spirit of adventure. Please call or Email us to Book! 867.993.3855//// thevikingandthewolf@yahoo.com
